Juan Castro was traded for Brandon Roberts a speedy single A outfielder. Here’s some timely analysis from ubelmann. Bartlett is now entrenched at SS for the rest of the season, and let’s hope he can prove he sticks around. Batista and Castro are probably only the first few shoes to drop, look for White to go soon. I also doubt Terry Ryan is satisfied with the in-house options at third so look for something to happen in that regard.

The worse thing about Tony Batista being designated for assignment is we can no longer play this lovely game.

If you need a fix for quick information after the games, including a recap written by a beat writer and game notes, filled with juicy anecdotes and manager speak you should check out Kelly Thesier’s articles at Twins Official Site; she’s typically the fastest with her reports, coming within the hour, and sometimes before the game is over.

Could the Castro trade be a further indication of some friction between Gardy and Ryan? Seems to me that Ryan wasn't happy about Bartlett not making the team, let alone not playing, so he went out and traded the guy Gardy wants to play. I wonder if Ryan has the authority to fire the manager or what it would take for something like that to happen? Would they have to revive ole Carl and get permission? Would Carl be able to figure it out on his own that Gardy was fired if no one told him?

It is interesting isn't it? Some of the biggest complaints about the Twins this year have been the left side of the infield (both players now gone), RonDL (rumors swirling about his imminent departure) and the lack of innings for Joe Nathan in close games (2 inning save against the Red Sox last night). Did Ryan exert some control over his manager and lay down the law? Did Gardy see the light and decide he'd rather keep his job than lose it playing never will be's like Castro? Don't know but something's going on. And suddenly I'm very optimistic about this team being entertaining and above .500 the rest of the year.
