So I listened to the two of you until two in the morning.....and I don't know if I understand the Bill Smith firing anymore but did enjoy the pod cast....
Gleeman absolutely was off his rocker on the Kubel/Swisher arbitration discussion. Can't believe you didn't slug him.
I don't understand, exactly, why you think your blueprint is suddenly impossible???? You have Cuddyer (11 million) and Buehrle (10 million) being signed. Um . . . . drop one of them and you are down to, what, $103-$104 million? Now, you might want to drop Nathan's $7 million and one of the shortstops at $1 million or whatever so that you could get a better shortstop like Barmes and maybe a reliever like Dotel so that you round out the roster better. It certainly is not impossible. Nick Nelson has a blueprint right around $104 million or so.
I realize that leaves a RF gap, but Laynce Nix at $2 million wouldn't push the payroll too high
Think of it this way: let Cuddyer, Nathan, and Kubel all walk and think about getting to $100 million. 82 + Barajas at 3, Barmes at 4, Dotel at 3, Wuertz at 1, DeJesus/D. Lee at 5 and Nix/Gomes/DeRosa at 1.5 or whatever.
If the above doesn't work by June or July, start the youth movement (Tosoni, Dozier, Parmelee, Benson, Herrmann).
